nature

This was a lucky break, and even though it’s not focused clearly, it has a sense of movement, because yeah, you guessed it, I moved the camera as I took it. But being on manual zoom, I had to focus on the fly….(haha, get it?)

This log was interesting and the shot is actually an HDR comprised of 3 shots. I like how one can see the sap dripping down.

I almost fell into the river for this shot. I had a very narrow aperture and was stretching to my fullest to get a clear shot and not land in icy mud. Should a fall happen in the future I promise to include the embarrassing selfie…

I liked how the ice had formed from the undulations of the water and the golden branches still shown through. It’s a very ugly time of year and any color should be enjoyed and absorbed through as many senses as is physically possible.

This picture in color is amazingly unremarkable. Yet in black & white it is easier to follow the arms of the trees and see greater contrast. Thank goodness for black & white…..behind it I may hide my true incapabilities.

This was a longer exposure with a wide open aperture on a tripod. I don’t believe the camera moved or that I bumped it. I think the vibrations from the river itself caused just enough movement during the 3 second exposure to create a doubling effect on some of the objects.

One of my favorite things to do is find random objects in strangers’ yards and ask to photograph them. It’s amazing how open people are to a student on an assignment. And mostly I think they’re flattered to have something of interest to a supposed artist. I mean I am an artist. But they don’t know that. I could just be an aspiring artist with no real eye or talent but so long as I maintain my mystery and never show them my end products, I could be the next Ansel Adams and they’d never know. They just know they had an artist want to immortalize their pets or garden.

This beauty was very shy of the camera and its noises. She was a lovely thing and sweet, but would only come so close when I had my camera up.

This stud had some beautiful colors and I waited 5 minutes (maybe only 2) for him to land and stay still long enough for me to capture him.

Folks, I’d like for you to meet Moe, Larry, and Curly Joe.
